17 killed in clash between policemen and robbers in Philippines

Manila - Seventeen people, including a 7-year-old girl, were killed in a running gunbattle between police officers and suspected robbers in the Philippine capital, a police report said Saturday.

The report said 5 civilian, 11 suspected robbers and one police officer died in the firefight that erupted late Friday in Manila's suburb of Paranaque.

Several others were wounded including three police officers and two security guards.

The shootout started when police intercepted the vehicles of the suspects on a highway in Paranaque.

Police captured four suspects, while three others escaped. (dpa)
