86 percent of Brits don't want women to go to jail for non-violent crimes
London, Nov.26 : A survey undertaken by market research firm ICM has found that 86 percent of Brits would not like women to be sent to prison for committing non-violent crimes.
The survey of 1,006 people revealed that women should do community service and go to centres where reasons for crime are discussed.
According to The Mirror, almost three-quarters said mums of young children should not be locked up for a non-violent offence while 67 per cent thought prison is unlikely to reduce re-offending. And 77 per cent said it would be better if women drug addicts who commit non-violent crimes were given drug rehabilitation.
Lucie Russell, director of SmartJustice which commissioned the report, said: "If we are serious about reducing women's offending we need to tackle the reasons they commit crimes in the first place." (ANI)
