Bangladesh to continue indefinitely with advanced time
Dhaka, Oct 13 : Bangladesh has decided that the clock advanced by an hour to make maximum use of daylight hours as an energy saving measure would "continue for an indefinite period".
The working day dawned early throughout the country Tuesday with offices and educational institutions advancing their routine.
Bangladesh advanced its clock by an hour in July. The new time was set on Greenwich Mean time (GMT) +7 from the GMT +6.
Although that was meant to be a temporary measure, the government Monday decided that this would continue.
"The new time, daylight saving time, will continue for an indefinite period as we have found the system saves around 200 MW of electricity during evening hours while the government does not want to change the clocks again and again," a minister, who was not named, told New Age newspaper. (IANS)
