Hezbollah slams world community for ignoring Israeli violations

Hezbollah slams world community for ignoring Israeli violationsBeirut - Lebanon's shiite movement Hezbollah lashed out Wednesday on the international community for failing to act to stop repeated incursions by Israeli troops into southern Lebanon.

"The Israeli violations are taking place every day on Lebanese soil ... in front of everyone, including the United Nations troops" stationed in the south of the country, a statement said.

"We demand to know what the position of the security council, the UN secretary general (Ban Ki-moon) and Lebanese government is" about the incursions, it added.

The statement was referring to the brief incursion by Israeli soldiers on Sunday near the disputed Shebaa Farms territory in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah also accused the Israelis of other incursions, including in the southern border region of Meis el-Jabal and in the south-east region of Ghajar.

Israeli jets, almost daily, violate Lebanese airspace.

The overflights have drawn criticism from Lebanese authorities and the international community because they violate UN Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war between the militant group and Israel.

Tensions began flaring up again on the Lebanese-Israeli border in February after a declaration of "open war" by Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah in the wake of the assassination of the Shiite group's military commander Imad Mughaniyeh in Damascus.

Hezbollah has blamed Israel for the killing. Israel denied any involvement.
