Israel condemns attack on police outside US consulate in Istanbul
Jerusalem - Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on Thursday condemned the armed attack outside the US consulate in Turkey and offered condolences to the families of the police officers killed and the governments of Turkey and the United States.
Three police officers were killed in a shootout with three suspected al-Qaeda gunmen just metres away from the main gate of the consulate in Istanbul's Istiniye suburb on Wednesday.
"There can be absolutely no justification for this reprehensible act of terror, which underscores the need for coordination of international efforts against the organizations that carry out these murderous operations, and their supporters," an Israeli Foreign Ministry statement quoted Livni as saying.
