Shares jump 2.3 per cent in Seoul

Shares jump 2.3 per cent in SeoulSeoul  - Shares surged 2.3 per cent Wednesday on the Seoul stock exchange, led by gains in banking and automotive stocks. South Korea's won also rose against the dollar.

The benchmark Kospi index gained 27.1 points to close at 1,233.36. Advancing issues outpaced decliners 640 to 195.

The main index of the technology-heavy Kosdaq market rose 9.53 points to 430.97.

On currency markets, the US dollar was quoted at 1,379.50 won after Tuesday's close of 1,383.50. (dpa)
