Bush offers condolences, aid after Philippine typhoon
Washington - US President George W Bush offered his "deep condolences" and US resources to the Philippines suffering from a damaging typhoon, at a White House meeting Tuesday with Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan was headed to the region to help with recovery efforts, Bush said, while the US' chief aid agency on Monday said it was providing an initial 100,000 dollars worth of equipment.
More than 150 people were killed as Typhoon Fengshen swept across the Philippines on Saturday. More than 740 remained missing, feared dead, from a ferry that capsized in the storm.
"I expressed our deep condolences to those who suffered as a result of the typhoon. I know there's some families that are hurting," Bush said. "The American people care about the human suffering that's taking place, and we send our prayers." (dpa)
