Parliament approves raise for Danish prince

Copenhagen  - The Danish parliament Tuesday approved an increase in the funds newly-wed Prince Joachim receives from the public purse.

The prince is slated to get 2.87 million kroner (590,000 dollars) a year, a raise of 823,000 kroner, parliament said, citing his recent marriage and obligations that will follow suit.

In May, the prince tied the knot with French-born Marie Cavallier at a church near his estate in southern Jutland.

Following Joachim's 2005 divorce from Hong Kong-born Alexandra Manley parliament decided to cut his funds from 2.6 million kroner to 1.9 million kroner.

Prince Joachim, 38, is the youngest son of Queen Margrethe and fourth in line to the Danish throne. (dpa)
