Moscow - Russian President Dmitri Medvedev fired Moscow police chief Vladimir Pronin Tuesday, after one of his officers killed three people and wounded six in a shooting spree. Medvedev earlier Tuesday suspended several senior officers in the precinct where the shootings occurred, saying the local police should take full responsibility, Medvedev spokeswoman Natalia Timakova said.

Anand (Gujarat), Apr 28: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he was ready to go to jail if his involvement in the
2002 Godhra riots was proved.
“I will abide by the Supreme Court directives and fully cooperate in any probe. I am willing to go to jail if my involvement is proved by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the post-Godhra riots,” he said at an election rally here.

Washington - Police arrested five members of the US Congress on Monday during a protest outside the Sudanese embassy against the conflict in Darfur. Democratic representatives Jim McGovern, John Lewis, Donna Edwards, Keith Ellison and Lynn Woolsey were taken into custody for crossing into an area cordoned off by police, Chris Shields, a spokesman for Woolsey, said.
Police warned the lawmakers several times to not cross the yellow-taped line outside the embassy , Shields said. They were charged with misdemeanor trespassing after surrendering peacefully to the police, he said.
