Even before the Gujarat state board examinations begin from March 17 this year, the stress of examination has claimed the life of a student. Ajay Mahendra Patel, 17, a student of class XII of Vishwa Bharti Vidhyalaya, committed suicide by hanging himself at his house on Monday.

Sources said that Patel, a resident of Saibaba Society, committed suicide when there was no one in the house. He was to appear in Class XII (science) examination and was in a state of depression over whether he would  get good marks in the examination or not.

Company bags Rs67crore BSNL contract

The state-owned telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will now also start WiMax service in rural area of Gujarat. The Chennai-based IT firm, Gemini Communication has won an order from BSNL to provide the service in rural area of the state.

Gemini Communication, which is listed on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), announced on Tuesday that it has bagged an order worth Rs67 crore from BSNL for its rural mobile WiMax project.

Over 60 children in Batakwada Tad primary school in Santrampur taluka of Panchmahals region suffered from food poisoning after drinking milk provided to them under Gujarat government’s “Van Bandhu Kalyan Yojana” on Tuesday.

Van Bandhu Kalyan Yojana is a recently-launched tribal welfare programme.

The students started vomiting within minutes of consuming specially packed flavoured milk.

When some school teachers checked the pouches, they found insects in the milk pouches of ‘Doodh Sanjivani’.

Through this facility, the electricity consumers will now be able to pay their electricity bills anytime with multiple payment options such as cash, cheque, demand draft and credit or debit card. The company is providing this service under build-own-operate-maintain (BOOM) model.

Sabarkantha (Gujarat), Mar 2 : The Hepatitis B death toll in Gujarat has risen to 60, with four more deaths reported on Monday.

A Sabarkantha District health official said: “Four people have lost their lives on Monday, taking the number of deaths due to hepatitis infection to 60.”

There have been several new cases reported, taking the total number of cases registered to over 184, off which 60 have died.

Most of the diseased have been reported from Sabarkantha District.

By January, the bank has already achieved growth rate of 42%

Slump in stock markets and real estate has worked in favour of State Bank of India (SBI), as the largest commercial bank is all set to post 45% growth in deposit base in Gujarat during the current financial year. This is against 24% growth posted by the bank in the previous fiscal and the bank has never seen such a whopping growth in the past. "Few years back, the growth in deposits in Gujarat was around 15%, while in the previous year, it increased to around 24%. But in the current fiscal, we expect it to grow by more than 45%," said chief general manager, SBI, HC Pattnaik.
