Kolkata, Sep 1 : Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee today met West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi for the second day following his initiative to resolve deadlock over Singur issue.

Chatterjee, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly, had an hour closed meeting with Gandhi today.

It could not be ascertained if Chatterjee delivered any communication from Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee to the Governor who wrote to her last Saturday, urging her to take part in the negotiations.

Kolkata, Sep 1 : Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has said she is ready to hold talks with the Left Front-led West Bengal Government, but insists that the stir at the TATA Motors'' Singur project site would continue.

"Negotiations and agitation can go together," Mamata said after sending a Krishi Jami Raksha Committee delegation to met West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi on Sunday.

Earlier, the Governor wrote a letter to the Trinamool chief, urging her to take part in the negotiations.

Kolkata, Aug 30: Dr. Krishna Kumar Birla, the noted industrialist of the Birla family, died at his residence after a brief illness on Saturday morning. He was 90.

He served as a Member of the Rajya Sabha, and is survived by three daughters Nandini Nupani, Shobhana Bhartia, who is the vice chairperson and editorial adviser of Hindustan Times and Saroj Potddar.

Birla, who was the Chairman of Hindustan Times and several Birla Group of industries, was ill for the last fortnight.

His wife Manorama Devi Birla died about a month ago.

Kolkata, August 29 : Central committee member of the Communist Party of Marxist Shyamal Chakraborty on Friday said that West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee has been censured by party’s Politburo for his anti-bandh stand and he has accepted the punishment.

“The Chief Minister has been censured by the Politburo for his anti-bandh stand and he has not opposed it and accepted the decision,” Chakraborty said.

Chakraborty said the "censure" is one of the several penal provisions in the CPM constitution.

Kolkata, Aug 26 : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today ruled out returning 400 acres of the Tata Motors'' Nano factory site to farmers, saying such a step would mean dropping all plans to manufacture the world''s cheapest car in the state.

"I cannot afford to return the 400 acres. If that land has to be returned, then Tata Motors project has to be dropped. I cannot allow this to happen," Bhattacharjee told here an interactive session with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).

Singur/ Kolkata, Aug 26: The main Opposition party in West Bengal the Trinamool Congress has warned to continue its protests till its demand of returning the 400 acres of land to the farmers was met.

“Our protest will continue further till the time the government returns the farmers their land which was forcefully acquired from them,” said Madan Mitra, leader of the Trinamool Congress.

Meanwhile, the indefinite siege by the protesters in front of the Tata car plant choked the Durgapur Expressway on Monday, hampering vehicular movement on the entire highway. Trucks and buses have been stranded on the highway since Sunday, when the protest started.
