Ludhiana, April 22: With a rising concern for health across the world, a lot of people in Punjab are increasingly getting drawn to alternate systems of medicine to escape the side effects of modern-day drugs.
A two-day awareness meet was held here recently to educate people on the traditional systems of medicine in India. `Arogya’ – meaning `holistic health’ was the ninth such event organised in the country aimed at promoting healthy living in modern-day society.
Amritsar, April 22: The Sikhs in Punjab are still in the ‘Baisakhi’ mood. Baisakhi is the commencement of the New Year, the day when harvesting is done and it also holds religious significance for the Sikh community, as it also happens to be the day when the Panth Khalsa was founded.
Sikhs from across the country and abroad take a holy dip in the Harminder Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple on the occasion of Baisakhi.
Guru Gobind Singh the 10th Sikh guru, had established the Khalsa Panth (the Order of the Pure Ones) on April 13, 1699.
Ludhiana, April 20: A group of seven students of Ludhiana are all set to attend an international conference in which 400 students from 100 countries would be participating.
The Global Young Leader conference will discuss issues related to world politics, international relations, law, media, business and global economy.
International issues like terrorism, poverty, economy, AIDS, environment and inter-country disputes would be discussed in the conference.

Abohar (Punjab), Apr 18 : Officials of a sanctuary near Abohar in Punjab have sought more government aid.
Sanctuary guards do not have proper uniforms or licenses to protect the animals from poachers.
"The government is not helping us enough. We don't have sufficient government resources. The people support us and we are able to manage the sanctuary well," claimed Ashok Kumar, the Game Warden.
The sanctuary is spread across 46,513 acres and comprises of 13 villages in Firozpur District.
Noshera Dhala (Punjab), Apr 14: Over 500 couples tied the knot on Monday in a mass marriage ceremony held here on the occasion of Baba Jalan Dass Baisakhi Mela.
The organisers were praised for taking care of all expenses.
"Every person decides about his or her partner. Their names are registered only after the village head's recommendation. Later, the date of marriage is fixed," said Kanwerjit Singh, one of the organisers.
"Last year, we organised 175 marriages and this year around 500 marriages took place," he added.
