Coimbatore, Dec 20 : An orphanage in Coimbatore adopted about 161 children, who are the victims of communal carnage in Kandhamal district Orissa.
Most of the victims who had arrived here had lost their houses, property and are without any means of livelihood. Many of the victims have not got over the trauma and some are still living with the fear that they would be killed.
"I have lost everything. I have nothing and anyhow we went to the relief camp. From there we have brought here," said Sambit Naik, a victim.

Chennai, Dec 8 : For the first time, instead of raising voices for their own issues, hoards of transgender gathered here today to served a hunger strike to show solidarity with the ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Almost all transgender associations in Tamil Nadu participated in the protest to voice their concern over the alleged atrocities on ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Tamil Nadu on Sunday sought Rs 1,893 crores from the Centre for flood-relief work.
Heavy rains brought by Cyclone Nisha battered 12 coastal districts, causing extensive damage and killing 189 people. As many as 1,597 villages were still under water, officials said. Over 3.23 lakh people were living in relief camps.
The torrential rains have destroyed standing crops in over 550,000 hectares of land. 600,000 farmers have been hit hard by the calamity.
