Islamabad, Mar 7 : The Embassy of Republic of Turkey hosted a musical concert on March 5, featuring the first ‘all female musical band’ of Pakistan. The group, which comprised of young Zeb and Haniya, turned out to be a huge success as they mesmerised the audience with their lucid tunes, rendered in a simple but elegant manner, reports the Daily Times.

Zeb is the leading vocalist of the group, while Haniya, who plays the guitar, can sing melodious songs in English, Urdu and Turkish.

Ankara - A faulty altimeter is the most likely cause of last week's crash at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport of a Turkish Airlines plane which left nine people dead and more than 80 injured, investigators said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference in The Hague, the Dutch Safety Board chairman Pieter van Vollenhoven said that examination of the so-called "black box" flight data recorder revealed that the Boeing 737-800's left altimeter was faulty.

Ankara - Syria wants Turkey to continue in its role as a mediator in the now-stalled indirect peace talks between Syria and Israel, NTV television reported on Tuesday.

Before the indirect talks could begin again, a new government must be formed in Israel and the humanitarian crisis suffered by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip must end, NTV quoted Turkish Foreign Ministry officials.

Amsterdam  - Two employees of the US plane-builder Boeing were among the nine dead in Wednesday's plane crash outside Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, the company confirmed early Friday.

A third employee of the firm, who had been on board the Turkish Boeing 737-800 that crashed on approach to the airport, was injured and remains in hospital, the Seattle-based concern said in a statement.

Boeing is awaiting information from the crash investigation about what caused the accident, which came at the end of the scheduled morning flight from Istanbul when the aircraft came down suddenly short of the airport runway.

Amsterdam - Dutch authorities Thursday released the list of nationalities of the passengers on the Turkish Airlines plane that crashed just short of Schiphol Airport the day before.

The Boeing 737-800 was carrying 53 Dutch and 51 Turkish nationals, as well as a number of from such other countries as Italy, Germany and Taiwan, said Theo Wetering, mayor of the Haarlemmermeer municipality, at a press conference at the airport.

The nationality of 15 people was still not known, he said.

Ankara - The United states on Thursday welcomed Turkey's commitment to peace in the Middle East saying that the country had a "unique role" to play in the region said George Mitchell, the US special envoy for the Middle East.

"Turkey is a crucial ally of the United States and an important force for the peace and security in the Middle East," Mitchell said in Ankara after talks with Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
