Jim Corbett (Uttarakhand), Nov 18 : Wildlife officials at Jim Corbett National Park on Monday discovered an elephant gored to death by another tusker.

The carcass of the badly mauled elephant, about 35 years old, was found by officials near a river flowing through the park.

Rishikesh, Nov 13 : The Ganga Seva Samiti organised a unique Deep Dan festival on November 12 in Rishikesh of Uttrakhand.

It was organised on the eve of Baikuntha Chaturdashi, a sacred day before Kartika Purnima.

The pilgrimage city witnessed such a festival for the first time.

The venue was the Triveni Ghat, the popular Ghat of the town. Hordes of people participated in the event and offered homemade flour-lamps to the sacred river.

Rishikesh (Uttarakhand), Nov. 13 : Triveni Ghat at the holy town of Rishikesh was illuminated on Wednesday evening when thousands of lamps were lit by a large number of people to mark a special Deep Dan mahotsav held on the occasion of Vaikunth Chaturdashi.

This year most of the lamps were made of flour, which dissolve in water and not pollute it.

According to the Hindu mythology, lit Diyas (lamps) made Lord Vishnu to come out of his deep slumber on Vaikuntha Chaturdashi.

Nainital, Nov 10 : A three-year-old male leopard was killed in a road accident near Ramnagar forest area of Jim Corbett National Park on Sunday.

Wildlife officials said they found the dead leopard during regular patrolling.

Preliminary investigations reveal the leopard could have been hit by a speeding vehicle.

" There were blood stains and blood was coming out from its nose also," said Prakash Chand, Range Officer, Ramnagar Forest Division.

"The blood samples have been taken and further investigations would be carried out," he added.

Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand), Nov 7 : Wildlife officials have discovered a dead tigress inside the Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand.

The 10-year-old dead tigress was found near the Ramganga river that flow through the park.

No injuries were sighted on the tigress.

Officials are awaiting a post mortem report to ascertain the actual cause of the death.

Sri Nagar (Uttarakhand), Oct 21 : Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has slammed MNS chief Raj Thackeray for his anti-north Indian campaign and accused him of indulging in divisive politics.

“What Raj Thackeray is doing is wrong. This is dividing the country,” Rahul said, while interacting with the students of H N Bahuguna University at Sri Nagar in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

He was asked what was the Maharashtra government doing to prevent attacks on north Indian students who had gone there to appear in a Railway examination.
