Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods to play off for US Open

La Jolla, California - Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods are to play off over 18 holes at the US Open at the par-71 Torrey Pines Golf Club on Monday after both finished on one under par 283 over four rounds.

45-year-old Mediate played a par final round of 71 and then was in the clubhouse to see Woods finish his round. Going into the 18th hole, Woods needed a birdie to force a play off.

He gave himself a chance with a 12-foot putt, which rolled around the cup before falling into the hole to force the play-off.

The winner will become the first American since Jim Furyk in 2003 to win the US Open. (dpa)
