Sukhbir elected as the new Akali Dal president
Amritsar, Jan 31 (ANI): Sukhbir Singh Badal has been elected unanimously as the new president of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today.
Sukhbir, son of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, is a Rajya Sabha MP and is currently the working president of SAD.
He was elected as SAD president at Amritsar at the party's general house meeting.
Party vice president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura proposed Sukhbir's name for the post of party president.
It was also decided in the meeting to extend the tenure of the president's post to five years from the present period of three years.
Sukhbir was appointed as the working president of the party immediately after the SAD-BJP combine won in the 2007 state Assembly elections. (ANI)
