Travel Visa Requirements - IT Returns

Hi Everyone!

I am presently work at HDFC Bank, Allahabad and i wish to travel to Italy next year on Travel Visa. I was talking to a friend and i was told that we have to show our Income Tax returns for the last 3 years to get a Visa for most countries in European Union.

Please confirm if this is an important condition ?

I am working only since last two years, earlier was studying. So, i can show the IT returns for only two years. I hope there will be some relaxation to this rule ?
