Van crashes in southern Mexico killing 17 passengers Mexico City - Seventeen people died and five others were injured Friday after a van crashed in a mountainous area in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, the state government said.

The accident took place in the Sierra Sur in Oaxaca, near the town of Santa Lucia Miahuatlan. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, civil protection authorities said. (dpa)
