Victories for Majdic and Kjolstad in nordic sprints

Victories for Majdic and Kjolstad in nordic sprints Stockholm - Johan Kjolstad led home a Norwegian clean sweep of the podium positions in a men's nordic skiing World Cup sprint event in Stockholm Wednesday while Slovenia's Petra Majdic claimed victory in the women's event.

Kjolstad registered a winning time of 2 minutes 13.9 seconds for the 1-kilometre circuit, finishing 1.6 seconds ahead of John Kristian Dahl and 2.1 in front of Eldar Ronning. Majdic won in a time of 2:36.3 minutes with Finland's Aino-Kaisa Saarinen second, 0.5 seconds adrift. Local favourite Anna Olsson took third spot, 1.2 seconds behind the winner.

The nordic skiing season concludes this weekend in Falun, Sweden, with four men's and women's events taking place from Friday to Sunday. (dpa)
