Munich, April 23 : A new study has revealed that asteroid surfaces age and redden much faster than previously thought - in less than a million years, all thanks to solar winds.
"Asteroids seem to get a `sun tan' very quickly," said lead author Pierre Vernazza. "But not, as for people, from an overdose of the Sun's ultraviolet radiation, but from the effects of its powerful wind," he added.
It has long been known that asteroid surfaces alter in appearance with time.
Munich - Plans for a new mosque to be built in Munich got the official go-ahead Wednesday, after years of political wrangling.
The city council approved building plans for the 10-million-euro (13 million dollar) mosque to be built in the city centre, despite opposition from Bavaria's Christian Socialist Union (CSU) and another regional party.
A broad political majority voted in favour of the project, including Social Democrats (SPD), Federal Democrats (FDP), Greens and the Left Party, according to a city spokesman.
Munich, April 22 : Scientists have announced the discovery of the lightest exoplanet found so far, which is only about twice the mass of our Earth.
The planet, "e", lies in the famous star system Gliese 581.
The finding is the outcome of more than four years of observations using the most successful low-mass-exoplanet hunter in the world, the HARPS spectrograph attached to the 3.6-metre ESO telescope at La Silla, Chile.

Women are more likely to complain of pressure in the upper abdomen, sweat attacks, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, back pain or pain between the shoulder blades, in the jaw bone or facial area.
Munich - Adding to the gloom in the run-up to next week's Hanover industrial fair in Germany, engineering giant Siemens warned Thursday that no end to the slump in world business was visible yet.
Heinrich Hiesinger, who heads Siemens' industrial divisions, told VDI Nachrichten, an industry newspaper, "It's difficult to predict when the recovery of the markets will kick in.
"We have to recognize that some industrial markets will not return so quickly to the record level of 2008, even after recovery."
